A Great First Step: Construction Begins on Mason Mile Project with New Parking Lot

Construction has officially started on the inaugural phase of the Mason Mile project, a significant development in downtown Mason, Ohio, aimed at addressing a chronic parking shortage and potentially revitalizing the area.

New Parking Lot: A Much-Needed Solution

The project involves building a new parking lot, adding approximately 130 parking spaces near downtown, which will not only ease parking frustrations but also serve as a venue for community events. This visible progress marks the first step in the Mason Mile vision.

Business Owners' Perspective

Local business owners, such as Todd Hudson (owner of Wildflower Cafe) and Mark Lortz (owner of Common Beer Company), have been advocating for this change for years. They believe the lack of parking has hindered visitor attraction and business growth in the area.

“You’re seeing that all over the Cincinnati area. A lot of small communities, a lot of small towns are getting revitalized and rehabilitated, and it’s our turn,” said Lortz.

A Long-Awaited Revitalization

The parking lot project is the culmination of years of planning, according to former Mason City Council member Mark Haake. It addresses a key concern raised by business owners during WCPO 9's "Let's Talk" event at Common Beer Company, where they expressed the need for more parking spaces to support downtown growth.

Future Plans for Mason Mile

The Mason Mile project is a broader initiative aimed at transforming downtown Mason. With the parking lot as a foundation, future developments could include enhanced streetscapes, improved sidewalks, and additional attractions, ultimately positioning Mason as a vibrant and bustling hub.
