A Bend man was found dead in a construction zone in Northeast Bend Thursday evening following an electric scooter crash.
Bend Police were sent on a welfare check about 10:45 p.m. on Northeast Division Street near Third Street for a man lying in the road. The area is currently closed to traffic for North Unit Irrigation District construction.
Officers found Tommy Banks, 40, dead inside the construction zone.
Banks was riding an electric scooter northbound through the closed section of Northeast Division Street when he struck a large rebar grid in the roadway and crashed.
Banks was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
