Broadway Market Construction Delayed to Spring 2027
The $45 million renovation project of the Broadway Market, originally scheduled to begin in summer 2026, has been pushed back to spring 2027. This delay, revealed by Holly Kirkpatrick of 7 News WKBW, is due to a holdup in selling tax credits tied to the project.
David Franczyk, a longtime advocate for the market and current member of the Broadway Market Management Inc. board, expressed optimism about the project's future. Despite the delay, Paul Ray of Empire State Development, the primary funder, assured that the renovation will proceed.
The renovation aims to transform the historic Buffalo market into a vibrant year-round community asset. Franczyk emphasized that there will be no disruption to shoppers or vendors during the upcoming holiday season or Easter 2027, with construction expected to begin in earnest by Easter 2028.
