Cartwright Park Construction Running Behind Schedule
The City of Evanston shared in a newsletter on October 16th, 2026, that Cartwright Park construction is running behind schedule, as reported by Sixth Ward Councilmember Tom Suffredin.
A delayed permit approval from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago pushed the start back nearly a month. Additionally, a wetter-than-normal summer left the park’s soil too saturated for work on many days.
Crews are currently:
- Handling demolition
- Installing the construction fence
- Preparing part of the concrete base
- Installing concrete formwork and pouring concrete
City staff are collaborating with the contractor to expedite the project, though more weather delays are possible. An updated completion timeline will be shared once the schedule becomes firmer.
The renovations will include:
- A new children’s playground
- A gazebo
- Pavement
- A drainage system
- Security lighting
- Site amenities
- Landscaping
- Improvements to the basketball and tennis courts
