Construction Begins on £112m Rolls-Royce Facilities in Derby

Construction work has started on new £112 million facilities for Rolls-Royce at its Sinfin A site in Derby. The company announced a £300 million investment in the UK, including £140 million for Derby, last Monday.

This project involves regenerating six acres (2.4 hectares) of existing buildings and infrastructure to make way for two new engineering and manufacturing services facilities, set to employ over 300 people.

"This is the largest investment in Derby in over a decade," said Paula Clarke, director of test and experimental engineering at Rolls-Royce. "It is a symbol of our commitment to the city."

The new manufacturing services building will be approximately 3,300 sq m (35,520 sq ft), accommodating 90 employees, and housing manufacturing services teams supporting factory operations.

The engineering building will span around 10,500 sq m (11,3021 sq ft) and provide space for 230 employees to work on projects focusing on "improving engine durability and performance".

Rolls-Royce aims to complete the buildings by the end of 2028.

"Our job is to make sure [engineers] have capabilities fit for the future," Clarke added, expressing her excitement about the investment and its impact on her team's work.

The company will reuse 20 tonnes of materials from the old buildings and recycle an additional 60 tonnes. The site clearance, which began in 2025, is nearly complete.

The remaining £40 million allocated to Derby will be used to refurbish the aftermarket support facility (ASF), a historic building dating back to the 1920s already utilized for engine maintenance.
