Construction Date Set for Proposed Parallel Route of Woodruff Road
The South Carolina Department of Transportation has set a tentative construction date for a proposed parallel route to alleviate heavy traffic on Woodruff Road. The project is tentatively set to begin in spring 2027 with clearing, grubbing and demolition before construction of the route in fall 2029.
Officials stated that the alternate route along the Woodruff Road Bypass would provide a new, 5-lane limited-access alternate parallel route to Woodruff Road, extending from Verdae Boulevard to Smith Hines Road at the Woodruff Road intersection. This new roadway would include four travel lanes with a median, curb and gutter, a sidewalk, a multiuse path, and two new bridge crossings at I-85 and I-385.
