The replacement of a bridge on County State Aid Highway 8 with a box culvert has been progressing, with the road expected to reopen soon, thanks to favorable weather conditions.
Public Works Director/County Engineer April Wellman provided an update to the Faribault County Board of Commissioners at their Oct. 20 meeting. She reported:
- "The box culvert is set, the water is flowing, and it is being backfilled."
- "It is tentatively scheduled to be paved after the bridge in Kiester Township is paved."
Wellman noted that wet weather had caused delays in the project.
She also informed the board about upcoming bridge work:
- Work on a bridge in Pilot Grove Township began on Oct. 12.
- Bridges in Delavan and Lura Townships will follow in the coming months.
Wellman further updated the board on 2027 construction plans:
- CSAH 7 is currently being milled.
- CSAH 20 milling is scheduled to start next week.
- Three county bridges are scheduled for replacement next year, located in Kiester, Clark, and Pilot Grove Townships.
Contract Renewal with CEDA
The board discussed renewing the contract with CEDA (Community and Economic Development Associates).
- The current contract runs from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.
- The proposed 2027 contract is $96,121, a 4% increase over the current year’s contract.
- A three-day-per-week contract would cost over $80,000.
- The board decided to wait to take action on the contract until the complete 2027 county budget is considered.
Preventative Health Initiative
Shawn Bococcini of Project Blue Financial returned to discuss his company’s Preventative Health Initiative (PHI), designed to reduce employer FICA costs while providing employees with access to wellness resources.
