Work began on Tuesday and is expected to continue into next week. The bridge collapsed in August when concrete was being poured. Three workers were injured.
Crews are separating the damaged span of the bridge from the pier and abutment, making the pieces smaller before removing them from the river.
Maine DOT says the temporary bridge will be closed for periods while crews work, although exact times are fluid.
