Future World’s Tallest Building: Jeddah Tower Nears Major Construction Milestone

Newsweek reports on the upcoming completion of the Jeddah Tower, set to be the world's tallest building once construction is finished.

Designed by Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, co-founders of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), and constructed by the Saudi Binladin Group (SBG), the tower will stand at approximately 3,281 feet high. It will surpass the current title-holder, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai (2,717 feet), designed by Smith while at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM).

At the Vertical Urbanism (VU) Summit of the Council on Vertical Urbanism (CVU), architect Ben Johnson from AS+GG revealed that the tower is on track to reach its halfway point, around 1,640 feet, by Thanksgiving. John Peronto, structural engineer and project manager, confirmed that the building has reached the 121st floor, with 125th floor being the halfway mark.

Ian Norman Miller, SBG senior executive project director, shared images of the tower at the 121st floor, stating that they are on track to reach the halfway point by Thanksgiving.

While Johnson expressed cautious optimism about the tower's completion in August 2028, he noted that the definition of "complete" has some flexibility. Peronto added that the structural top out is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
