Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Beginning of Construction on Iquitos Peru Temple
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints held a groundbreaking ceremony for their newest temple construction in Peru. The ceremony was led by Elder Sandino Román, a member of the South America Northwest Area Presidency. He expressed his gratitude for the project getting underway, as well as the faith of the members in the area.
"We are especially grateful for the construction of a temple in Iquitos and for the faith of those who have waited and worked for this glorious day to arrive," Román stated in a release.
Inaccessible by road, Iquitos is the largest city in the world without direct ground access. Members in the area had to travel extensively by air or water to reach the nearest temple. The Iquitos temple will be the tenth in Peru, joining the existing Lima, Lima Los Olivos, Arequipa, and Trujillo Temples.
Additional temples have been announced or under construction in the country, further enhancing accessibility for members.
