Holocaust Education Center Construction in Downtown Phoenix

Construction is underway on a new three-story, 31,000-square-foot Holocaust Education Center in downtown Phoenix, near the Burton Barr Library. It will be the first in Arizona dedicated entirely to Holocaust history.

Oskar Knoblauch, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor, was present at the construction site, sharing his story with AZFamily.

“A lot of people don’t know the real story, unless you were there. I was,” he said.

His narrative, along with three others, will be featured in the center. Arizona passed a law in 2021 requiring students in grades 7-12 to learn about the Holocaust and other genocides, leading to the project's evolution from a traditional museum to an educational hub.

The center aims to preserve the voices of survivors and educate future generations about this dark period in history.
