Three individuals from Iowa City, Eliezer Moisés Osorio, Libni Amador, and Nelson Lumbi Quiroz, were detained early morning Wednesday en route to a Cedar Rapids construction site, according to Escucha Mi Voz Iowa, an advocacy group.
The group claims that immigration enforcement activity is intensifying ahead of next week's election. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed that all three men were in the country illegally from Nicaragua. Quiroz, per ICE, had a prior removal order from September following an arrest for Operating While Intoxicated (OWI).
Quiroz remains in custody, while Osorio and Amador agreed to return to Nicaragua.
