KDOT Provides Update on Highway 83 Construction Progress
KSN-TV reports that the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is making significant progress on a major reconstruction project on U.S. Highway 83. The project, which began in 2023, aims to replace and reroute the highway, transforming it into a two-lane expressway with passing lanes. The scope of the project stretches from approximately 2½ miles north of the Haskell/Finney County line to the Arkansas River in Garden City.
Improvements and Benefits:
- The project incorporates safety enhancements, including consolidating highway access points, improving intersection angles, and adding turn lanes and lighting.
- These changes are designed to prepare U.S. 83 for potential future expansion to a four-lane highway.
Project Timeline:
- This phase of the project is anticipated to be completed in October 2027.
*In addition to the Highway 83 realignment, KDOT is also underway with the
Advanced Technology Project, which has been active since 2023.
