Milestones:
These mark a new phase for the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, shifting from grant approvals towards construction and service.
Louisiana's GUMBO 2.0 program is funding both projects:
- Pelican Broadband has connected customers in Coushatta, connecting 221 out of 1,102 intended locations by September 2027.
- SkyRider Communications is constructing fiber infrastructure, expecting to connect over 1,000 homes, farms, and businesses by Q1 2027.
Gov. Jeff Landry emphasized the tangible results of these projects, connecting communities and supporting Louisiana companies.
ConnectLA's Veneeth Iyengar highlighted the significance of these milestones, demonstrating BEAD funding reaching its intended communities.
Context:
Louisiana has been a leader in the BEAD program, achieving firsts in approval and fund distribution. The state's original plan aimed for 95% fiber coverage, but revised rules led to a revised plan focusing on 80% coverage.
Louisiana remains on track to achieve statewide broadband coverage by 2028.
