AUSTIN, Texas — One person died following an electrocution at a downtown Austin construction site on Friday afternoon, according to the Austin Firefighters Association.
Firefighters responded to the scene on October 9, where two individuals were located near live electrical lines, creating a hazardous situation for rescuers. According to the association, Austin Energy crews had to de-energize the electrical line before firefighters could safely access the people.
When the initial utility truck proved insufficient, a larger truck was dispatched with a police escort to expedite its arrival. Austin firefighters then used a ladder truck and bucket to reach both individuals. Despite rescue efforts, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Austin-Travis County EMS evaluated the second person, who did not require transport to a hospital.
Additional details about the incident and the identity of the deceased were not immediately available.
