Over $60K in Backpay Recovered for UWS Construction Workers: DA
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced that nearly $70,000 in stolen wages has been returned to a group of construction workers after concluding an investigation into KEP Construction LLC and its owner, Kendis Paul.
Investigation Details
According to court documents and statements, it was discovered that Paul held back a total of $67,275 in pay from 10 of his former employees between September 2023 and February 2024. The employees, who were immigrants and non-native English speakers, did drywall work for Paul at various construction sites.
When it came time for payment, however, Paul either gave them a check that would later bounce or no money at all. He refused to pay them for overtime work as well. A number of texts were sent by the employees to recoup their money, but all Paul did was say that he would keep them updated and pay them, but never did.
Paul was originally indicted for his actions back on January 9, 2025. KEP Construction LLC faced two felonies, one for grand larceny and one for scheme to defraud, which they pleaded guilty to.
