Seven Walton County Jail Inmates Graduate from Construction Program

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Seven men at the Walton County Jail graduated Wednesday morning from a six-week construction course aimed at preparing inmates for employment after incarceration.

Led by an instructor known as “Mr. Mack,” the program taught hands-on building skills — with students completing two sheds and several birdhouses — while reinforcing life lessons centered on work ethic, faith, and making better decisions.

James Johnson fought back tears during the ceremony, thanking jail staff for encouraging him to enroll and expressing gratitude for the opportunity to turn his life around. According to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office, the initiative is designed to reduce recidivism by equipping participants with marketable job skills and a pathway to stable employment upon release.
