State Senate Candidate Rob Blanchard Cited for Construction Pattern Violation, Says Newtown Police
Democratic state Senate candidate Rob Blanchard was cited for not adhering to a construction pattern, leading to a crash in Newtown, Connecticut, on October 20, 2026, at 11:53 p.m.
According to Newtown police, Blanchard was driving northbound in his Jeep Grand Cherokee and was instructed to cross over into the southbound lane due to construction. However, he returned to the northbound lane and collided with a hole.
Blanchard, uninjured, attributed the incident to being blinded by construction lights, failing to notice the traffic pattern, and the directing officer. The police officer on the scene determined Blanchard was at fault for disregarding traffic control and driving past the police cruiser into the closed lane.
He was issued an infraction for failure to obey any signal given by a fire or police officer directing traffic.
Blanchard is running for the 28th State Senate District, representing Bethel, Easton, Fairfield, and Newtown.
