Local Conditions on OHGO

The following ODOT construction projects are anticipated to affect roadways in Erie County. All outlined work is weather permitting. Interstate Projects

There are currently no active construction projects or road closures.

U.S. and State Route Projects

U.S. Route 6 Connectivity Corridor

  • The U.S. 6 Connectivity Corridor is from Cedar Point Drive in the city of Sandusky through the SR 2 interchange with Rye Beach Road to the city of Huron. Project work includes:
    • Construction of five new roundabouts on U.S. 6 at Perkins Avenue, Camp Road, Rye Beach Road, U.S. 6/SR 2 eastbound exit ramp to Rye Beach Road, and U.S. 6/SR 2 westbound exit ramp to Rye Beach Road.
    • Resurfacing and widening of U.S. 6 between Camp Road and Rye Beach Road to accommodate a center two-way left turn lane.
    • Construction of a 10-ft wide multi-use path and a new pedestrian bridge over Sawmill Creek to accommodate the shared use path.

Estimated completion: June 2029

CONTINUING IMPACTS

  • The Rye Beach Road entrance ramp to SR 2 westbound is closed to construct the legs of the future roundabout at Rye Beach Road interchange and reconstruct the entrance ramp. The detour route will be Rye Beach Road to SR 2 east to SR 13 (Exit 145) and then reenter onto SR 2 westbound. Estimated completion: Saturday, December 19, 2026
  • The SR 2 eastbound exit ramp to Rye Beach Road (Exit 142) will be closed to construction the legs of the future roundabout at the Rye Beach Road interchange and reconstruct the exit ramp. The detour route will be to continue along SR 2 east to SR 13 (Exit 145), reenter onto SR 2 west and then exit at Rye Beach Road (Exit 142). Estimated completion: Saturday, December 19, 2026

Crews are working on embankment work at the U.S. 6/Perkins Ave intersection outside the existing roadway alignment. Traffic will be maintained at all times utilizing flaggers and/or temporary traffic signals during working hours only. The full closure of this intersection is not scheduled till 2027.

State Route 2 resurfacing

  • SR 2 eastbound and westbound, from just east of the structures over Frailey Road to the Lorain County line: Lane closures for a resurfacing project. One 11-ft lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Estimated completion: October 2026
  • SR 2 eastbound and westbound, from just west of the SR 4 (Hayes Ave) interchange to just east of Rye Beach Road: Single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained in each direction. Estimated completion: July 2027

State Route 4 resurfacing

  • SR 4 from Bogart Road to Perkins Ave.: Single lane closures for a resurfacing project. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers.
