Vincent Thomas Bridge shuts down for construction project - NBC Los Angeles

Vincent Thomas Bridge Set to Close for Construction

The Vincent Thomas Bridge, a 60-year-old suspension bridge crossing the Los Angeles Harbor, is scheduled to close in late 2025 or early 2026 for much-needed construction, prompting concerns about increased traffic congestion for drivers. Although the bridge is structurally sound, it is deteriorating due to environmental factors and heavy traffic loads, according to Caltrans.

In anticipation of this closure, the Traffic Management Plan Task Force, comprising Caltrans and other agencies, elected officials, and the public, will hold its second meeting to discuss potential detours and gather public input. The meeting will take place on Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Anderson Memorial Senior Citizen Center (828 S. Mesa St., San Pedro).

The closure will enable construction crews to install a new bridge deck, a process designed to minimize construction time and offer the most cost-effective and safe solution. The projected 16-month renovation is expected to be completed by spring 2027.
