Starting Monday, Felton Street will be closed from Moody to Fountain streets. During the closure, access to Mechanic, Water, and Fountain streets will be from Charles Street.

The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority will be replacing a 60-inch water main buried beneath Felton Street. This is part of the Weston Aqueduct Supply Main, a 10-mile stretch of steel pipe installed in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Felton Street section is part of a larger repair and replacement project of approximately 2 ½ miles of pipeline in Arlington, Medford, Somerville, and Waltham. The main provides water to six additional towns north and west of Boston, and the Felton Street phase will involve an additional 3,540 feet of main.

The street will be closed to traffic from Moody to Fountain streets. During construction, access to the aforementioned streets will be from Charles Street.

The MWRA estimates that this phase of construction will be completed by May 15, 2027. Following this, another phase will begin along Linden Street from Main Street and Waverley Oaks Road to Beaver Street, expected to be finished by spring 2028.
