Work begins Monday on Fellowship Home construction project

Charleston, W.Va. — Work begins Monday on the expansion of the Kanawha Valley Fellowship Home in Charleston. KVFH purchased the building next to it in the 1100 block of Virginia Street East and will build 12 new sober living apartments, a $2.3 million project.

According to KVFH Executive Dick Daugherty, the apartments will provide affordable housing to men who have completed KVFH’s initial program. He emphasizes the importance of structured living for individuals recovering from opiate addiction, with a 70% increased chance of long-term sobriety at 12 months compared to six months.

Daugherty expressed hope during an appearance on 580 Live with Dave Allen that they can successfully raise funds to pay off the project cost. They have already raised over $256,000 from paying off the loan.

“When we’re done with the project we want to be debt free so we can give the best opportunity for men to recovery,” said Daugherty. “It will help our community when families get better, men get better, they go back to work and pay taxes.”
