Wrigley Field Security Bollard Construction Begins Next Week
By Al Yellon | October 11, 2026
The first preparations for next year’s All-Star Game at Wrigley Field are underway. As per Major League Baseball's requirements, the installation of crash-rated security bollards around the ballpark is set to commence on Monday, October 12.
This construction, split between the Cubs, the city of Chicago, and the state of Illinois, will occur in phases and aim for completion by Opening Day 2027. Some additional construction noise can be expected during this period.
Here’s a look at the areas that will experience closures and bollard construction over the coming months:
-
Sheffield Avenue (East of Wrigley):
- Vehicle traffic restricted from Addison Street to Waveland Avenue from October 12 through early December.
- Pedestrians unable to use the west sidewalk during the same period.
-
Waveland Avenue (North of Wrigley):
- Westbound traffic blocked from Clark Street to Sheffield Avenue from October 12 through early March.
- South sidewalk closed to pedestrians for the duration.
-
Addison Street (South of Wrigley):
- The north sidewalk will be off limits to pedestrians from October 22 through mid-January.
-
Clark Street (West of Wrigley):
- East side sidewalk closed to pedestrians starting in mid-November and lasting through mid-December.
